The record is in Marathi. The filing is in English. The hearing is Thursday.
-
Filing needs English.
A regional-language record cannot go into a Supreme Court appeal, or into most High Court paper books, until it is in English. Nothing moves until the translation does.
-
The client cannot read English.
The notice, the order, the agreement they are about to sign. Someone on the team ends up reading it aloud over the phone.
-
General tools break on the page.
Legacy fonts, a photocopy of a photocopy, a seal stamped across the holder's name. The engine reads what it can and drops the rest.
-
The bottleneck is retyping.
A translator does not spend the day translating. They spend it rebuilding the form, column by column, before a single word moves.
Trusted by legal teams across India
More than 500 legal teams use Jurisphere, including CMS IndusLaw, ICICI Bank and Tata Capital.
Read more from our customersWhat stays intact
Headings, paragraphs, indentation, simple tables and page breaks are rebuilt in the output where the source allows it. You check the result against the original in a side-by-side view, page for page, before it goes anywhere.
-
Header rebuilt column for column.
The village form's header comes back as columns, not as one run-on paragraph.
-
Survey numbers and extents intact.
Gat numbers, hectare-are figures and boundary descriptions carried over as written.
-
Rows in date order.
Mutation entries stay in the order the talathi recorded them.
-
Names kept exactly as written.
Holders, witnesses and officers spelled as they appear in the source, not corrected to what the engine expects.
-
Seals and signature blocks in position.
The stamp sits where it sat. The signature block is marked in place, not dropped.
-
Numbered clauses keep their numbering.
Clause 7.2 is still 7.2 in English, and the cross-reference to it still works.
How AI legal translation works: four passes before a word reaches you
-
Page read. In-house OCR reads the scan, including pages that arrive sideways, faded or stamped over.
-
Vision pass. Layout, tables, seals and handwriting are mapped before translation begins, so the structure survives the move.
-
Terminology lock. Legal terms are held consistent from the first page to the last. A vakalatnama on page one is a vakalatnama on page forty.
-
Back-translation check. The English is checked against the source before it reaches you.
Then you see the source and the translation side by side, page for page, and download the result as a Word or PDF file.
Built for the scan you were about to send back
Sideways pages. Handwriting over a printed form. A seal stamped across the text. A photocopy of a photocopy. A document typed in a legacy font that opens as boxes on any other machine. These are the pages that stop a general tool, and they are usually the pages a deadline turns on.
Handwriting is read today in Hindi, Marathi, Kannada and English. Other languages are read from typed or printed text, including poor scans.
Whatever comes back, you check it against the source page in the same view, so a page the engine struggled with is caught by you and not by the other side.

Which Indian languages it covers, scarcest first
Finding a Malayalam legal translator in Delhi on a Tuesday is the problem. Hindi to English is the volume. The product has to do both, but it earns its place on the first.
-
Hardest to find a translator for: Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Punjabi, Urdu, Gujarati.
-
Routine volume: Hindi to English, Marathi to English.
-
All 22 languages of the Eighth Schedule: Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, Dogri, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Maithili, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Odia, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Santhali, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu.
The workspace translates into 20 output languages, including English and Hindi, and takes over 200 global languages as input, for the deed signed in Dubai or the affidavit sworn in Singapore. Jurisphere Translate, the standalone product for single documents, keeps its own list of 21 output languages, which is why you will see both numbers.
The documents that come through most
-
Encumbrance certificates.
Every sale, mortgage, lease and release recorded against the property, in date order, with the document numbers and the schedule intact.
-
Sale deeds.
The sub-registrar refuses a deed in a language not commonly used in the district unless a true translation travels with it (Registration Act, section 19). The schedule of property and the consideration come back as written.
-
Land records.
7/12 extracts and their equivalents, with survey number, area, holder, encumbrances, crop and mutation entries each in its own column, as on the village form.
-
FIRs.
Recorded under section 173 of the BNSS, usually in the language of the police station. Names, sections, dates and the complainant's narrative, in order.
-
Chargesheets.
The police report under section 193 of the BNSS, with the accused, the witnesses and the documents relied on, numbered as in the source.
-
Court orders.
Orders and judgments from courts that work in Hindi or a regional language, needed in English for the appeal.
-
Legal notices.
A notice received in a regional language, translated so the reply goes out inside the period the notice gives.
-
Bail applications.
Applications and orders from the trial court, translated for the High Court file.
Built for the filings these forums run on
Wherever a regional-language record has to become an English filing:
- High Courts
- RERA authorities
- NCLT benches
- Sub-registries
- Revenue courts
- City civil courts
Why not Google Translate, DeepL or SUVAS
A general translation engine is built for typed text. Neither Google's nor DeepL's published pages claim to read handwriting from a scanned form, and neither ships an Indian legal glossary, so a word that means one thing in a court filing can come back as its everyday cousin. Judges have said as much in open court: in March 2025 Justice J.K. Maheshwari of the Supreme Court said machine translation is not enough and a manual check is a must.
The Supreme Court's own translation software, SUVAS, does a different job. It translates judgments from English into Indian languages for the registry, with retired judicial officers checking the output. It is not open to the public; the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association asked for access to it in March 2025.
That is the standard we built to. The machine does the reading and the first draft, with the structure and the terminology held. You do the check, with the source on the same screen.
Checked against each tool's published pages in October 2026.

Questions about AI legal translation
Can it read handwritten documents?
Yes, in Hindi, Marathi, Kannada and English today. Handwriting over printed forms, margin notes and handwritten mutation entries are read in those scripts. Other languages are read from typed or printed text, including poor scans. Test it on your own handwritten pages with a free trial.
Does the formatting survive?
Headings, paragraphs, indentation, simple tables and page breaks are kept where the source allows it. The output opens side by side with the source, page for page, so you can see exactly what moved. Download as Word or PDF.
Is my document safe?
Jurisphere is ISO 27001 certified and SOC 2 Type 2 compliant. Content is not used to train any model, is held in memory only while the response is generated, and is encrypted in transit and at rest. The security page has the detail.
How long does it take?
About a minute a page. Larger jobs run in the background while you work on something else.
Which languages are covered?
All 22 languages of the Eighth Schedule as input, within more than 200 global languages. The workspace translates into 20 languages, including English and Hindi, and Jurisphere Translate into 21 from its own list. The scarce ones, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Punjabi, Urdu and Gujarati, are where it earns its place.
What about a badly damaged page?
Check it beside the source page in the same view. From the library you can re-run OCR on the file and translate again; if a page is beyond any reader, send that one page to a translator with the rest of the document already done.
Can I translate a single document without a seat licence?
Yes. Jurisphere Translate takes a contract, judgment or agreement as a PDF or Word file, scanned or handwritten, and returns it in any of 21 languages with clause numbering and formatting intact. Pages come in packs: 100 pages for Rs 3,000 (Rs 30 a page) or 500 pages for Rs 12,500 (Rs 25 a page), plus GST.
Can the translation be filed in court?
It is built for the step before filing: the retyping removed, the format kept, and the English ready for a lawyer or translator to check against the source. Courts then require a certified translation, whichever tool drafts the English. Under the Supreme Court Rules 2013 (Order VIII, Rules 2 and 4) and the High Court rules, a translation is accepted when the parties agree to it, when an official or court-approved translator makes it under oath, or, in courts such as Delhi and Bombay, when an advocate certifies it as true. Review, certify, file. The court rules are set out in our guide to AI legal translation tools in India.
