/Orders relying on fake precedent
Hide Sources 2Can a tribunal's order stand if it relies on precedent that does not exist?
Short answer: no
The Supreme Court set aside an NCLT order and the NCLAT order affirming it.1
Citing such judgments without verification is misconduct on the part of an advocate.1
Before relying on any authority, check it against the reported judgment, not a summary of it.

Where the research hours go
-
"Keyword search gives me everything and ranks nothing."
Four hundred results for Section 13(4). The three that decide whether the writ lies are somewhere on page six.
-
"Checking one citation means reading sixty pages."
The proposition is in paragraph 41. Nobody tells you that until you have read the first forty.
-
"The chatbot gave me a case that does not exist."
Plausible citation, real party names, no judgment behind it. Courts have set aside orders for less.
-
"The database has never seen my matter."
The pleadings sit in one window and the research in another. The connection between them lives in my head.

Over 200 million primary-source documents across nine jurisdictions
Research runs against primary sources, not summaries of them. Supreme Court and High Court orders and regulator notifications are added as they are published, so the order that came out last week is in the room when you ask.
-
Supreme Court of India. Judgments and orders, updated continuously.
-
High Courts, all 25. Reported and unreported judgments and orders.
-
District courts. Delhi District Courts and the Bangalore City Civil Court.
-
Tribunals. NCLAT, CAT, ITAT, SAT, CESTAT, CERC, DRAT, NGT, CIC, NCDRC and APTEL, plus the archives of the Company Law Board (replaced by the NCLT in 2016) and the Intellectual Property Appellate Board (abolished in 2021). NCLT bench orders on insolvency, liquidation and schemes of amalgamation sit in the Corporate Law repository.
-
Regulators. RBI, SEBI, CCI, IRDAI and IBBI, including SEBI draft red herring prospectuses and CCI orders.
-
International. Legislation and case law from the UAE, the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Singapore and more, for matters that cross borders.
Every line cited. Every citation clickable.
An answer from Jurisphere reads like a note from a careful junior: a proposition, the authority for it, the next proposition. The difference is that each citation is a link. Click it and the source opens at the passage relied on, not at page one of a sixty-page judgment. You read the court's words, not ours.
That is the whole test. A citation you can open is evidence. A citation you cannot open is a claim.
Scope the question before it runs
Some questions have one right source. An RBI master direction decides the banking matter. A line of NCLAT orders decides the insolvency one. Switch on the repositories a question should search before it runs, from Corporate Law and Securities Law to the RBI, CCI and Income Tax, and the answer comes back from the sources you would have gone to first, without the noise from everywhere else.
How Jurisphere's AI legal research works
- 01
Retrieve.
The question runs against the live corpus and pulls the judgments, orders and circulars that bear on it.
- 02
Reason.
The answer is built across what was retrieved, not from what a model remembers.
- 03
Cite.
Every line is tied back to the document it came from, inline, as you read.
- 04
Check.
Each citation is matched against its source before the answer reaches you, so the link opens what the line says it opens.

Upload the plaint, the written statement, the contract, the arbitration notice. Then ask. Jurisphere reads the question against the corpus and your documents together, so "does our indemnity clause survive this line of authority" is a question it can answer, with the clause and the authority in the same answer. A database cannot do this. It has never seen your matter.
Ask Juris does this in Document Review mode for the files in front of you, and in Knowledge mode for everything your organisation has uploaded. Read how research runs in the help centre.
Why not ChatGPT or another general AI assistant?
-
No live Indian corpus.
A general assistant has read about Indian law. It does not hold the judgments.
-
Authorities that sound right.
When it needs one, it produces a plausible SCC citation with real-sounding parties and no judgment behind it.
-
No link to the source.
It cannot link you to the judgment, because there is none.
-
Your matter stays outside.
It cannot open the pleadings in your matter.
On 2 July 2026 the Supreme Court set aside an NCLT order and the NCLAT order affirming it because they rested on six authorities that either did not exist or did not say what was quoted (Pooja Ramesh Singh v. Jammu and Kashmir Bank, 2026 INSC 668). The court said citing such judgments without verification is misconduct on the part of an advocate. The tool you research on has to make verification possible. That means a source behind every line, and a link to it.

The reporter's copy of a judgment, the archive that goes back a century, the treatment flags: keep them. What Jurisphere adds is the research itself, done across a live corpus with the matter attached and a citation on every line. Most firms we work with keep one database licence and run Jurisphere next to it. For how the platforms compare, read our guide to AI legal research platforms in India.
Research for every side of the practice
-
Litigation.
Supreme Court, High Court and tribunal authority in one answer, with the pleadings attached. Build the argument, then the list of dates.
-
Corporate.
Regulator circulars, SEBI filings and the judgment that interprets them, before the term sheet is marked up.
-
In-house.
A sourced answer the business can act on, drawn from the regulator's own text rather than a summary of it.
-
Regulatory.
RBI, SEBI, CCI, IRDAI and IBBI as named sources, so the answer quotes what the regulator actually said.

Frequently asked questions
What is in the corpus, and how often does it update?
Over 200 million primary-source documents across nine jurisdictions: the Supreme Court, every High Court (reported and unreported), Delhi District Courts and the Bangalore City Civil Court, eleven sitting tribunals and the archives of two former ones, and five regulators, with international law for cross-border matters. Pipelines are updated continuously as courts and regulators publish. There is no quarterly refresh to wait for.
What happens when the answer is not in the corpus?
Two agents work alongside it. A legislation search agent retrieves the rules and regulations that add authority, and a web search agent searches curated, authoritative websites in real time, so a notification published this morning can still be found. Anything they find is cited like the rest of the answer, and a citation to an outside page opens it in a new tab, so you can see what came from where. If a question is too broad to answer well, Jurisphere may ask a clarifying question first. If your practice needs a repository you cannot see in Research settings, your Jurisphere Customer Success manager can help.
Can I rely on the citations in court?
The citation is verifiable: it opens the source at the passage relied on. The judgment is the authority, and the lawyer is the one who reads it, decides it applies and signs the filing. Since Pooja Ramesh Singh v. Jammu and Kashmir Bank (2026 INSC 668), verifying every citation is the standard the Supreme Court expects of every advocate, whatever tool found it. Jurisphere is built to make that check take seconds.
How is this different from an SCC Online or Manupatra subscription?
A database stores judgments and lets you search them. Jurisphere answers the question: it retrieves across the corpus, reasons over what it found, cites every line and opens the source on click, with your matter documents in context if you attach them. Most firms keep the database licence for the authoritative copy and use Jurisphere for the research. A free trial lets you compare the two on your own matters.
Are the documents I upload retained?
Customer content is not used to train or improve any model. Documents submitted with a query are held in memory only for the duration needed to generate the response, and are encrypted in transit and at rest. Files you choose to keep in your library stay under your organisation's control. The privacy policy sets out retention in full.
Does it cover tribunals and regulators?
Yes. Orders of eleven sitting tribunals are indexed: NCLAT, CAT, ITAT, SAT, CESTAT, CERC, DRAT, NGT, CIC, NCDRC and APTEL, with the archives of the former Company Law Board and Intellectual Property Appellate Board, and NCLT bench orders in the Corporate Law repository. The RBI, SEBI, CCI, IRDAI and IBBI are sources in their own right, so RBI circulars and master directions, SEBI orders and CCI orders can be researched directly, not only through the judgments that cite them.
Does it cover the BNS, BNSS and BSA?
Yes. Judgments and orders decided under the three codes since they came into force on 1 July 2024 enter the corpus as courts publish them, and a legislation search agent runs alongside the corpus, so a question about a BNSS section draws on the statute as well as the cases that apply it. Answers cite both like any other authority.
Can I export the answer?
Yes. Download any answer as a Word file with or without citations, or import it into a folder for the matter. A thread holds up to 30 questions, so you can keep working in it.
Bring the question you could not get a straight answer to.
The one with three courts and a regulator in it. The one the database gave you four hundred results for. We will run it live in a 30-minute session, on your matter, and you can open every citation yourself.
